Thrust
by Tom Piccirilli
Review by Stephen Clark
Chase is a poet. He performs at The Narrative Bone Palace with ex fellow inmate Shake Sunshine Jnr. The Falls Institute had once treated his dementia with hydrotherapy…that is to sadistically submerge him in a bath until he’s on the verge of drowning. A nurse had saved him from dying. She had died that night. And now, as Chase stands on stage, he spots that same nurse propped against the bar. Recollections of the past dredge all his fears and anxieties back to the surface. The guilt of a child’s death torments as much as saves his unstable psychosis and ultimately clouds the one thing he should be saving…himself.
Tom Piccirilli writes with great flair. The words flow smooth with meaning between each line. He’s an accomplished poet in his own right, which gives his work an invitation to appreciate.
