Sevenwaters Trilogy
by Juliet Marillier
Review by Nicola Lenton
Daughter of the Forest
This is the first book of the trilogy and introduces us to the family of Colum of Sevenwaters. Sorcha is the youngest of seven and the only girl. When her father marries the Lady Oonagh, trouble arises and Sorcha's brothers are cursed. It is up to Sorcha to free them from that.
Sorcha is taken from her home and must complete her task by remaining completely silent. The fight has been waging for generations to regain the Islands from the English and the Fair Folk have their own stake in the story.

Son of the Shadows
The second book of the trilogy deals with Sorcha's daughter, Liadan. Liadan must now take up the fight to save Sevenwaters and all that they hold dear. The dark forces of the Lady Oonagh are still at work, and the Fair Folk have their own agenda. Liadan has many choices to make, as she loves a man who is the enemy of her family.

Child of the Prophecy
The last book in the trilogy deals with the fulfilment of a prophecy that has been running through the series. A child will fulfil the need to regain the Islands, but the dark forces are still lurking and now it is up to Fainne, the daughter of a lapsed Druid and the grand-daughter of the Lady Oonagh who still is set in destroying the family of Sevenwaters and the ancient ones. Again the Fair Folk are trying to help in the fulfilment of this but it is the old ones who bring the most help.
In all, I found it to be an excellent trilogy by Australian authoress Juliet Marillier. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the books and had a hard time putting them down. She tells the story of Ireland well and teaches all about the ancient ways that were strong before Christianity arrived. The need to hang on to those beliefs is great in the story and I learnt a lot of the Tuatha De Danaan and others.
