Through the Window of Life, We Investigate the Journey
by Sam Fields
Review by James R.Cain
This is an unusual poetry book in that it's bilingual with each poem, piece of prose or reflection being presented in English and Spanish on the facing page. It's a nicely presented volume of approximately 113 pages in which Sam Fields invites us to "Dance through a personal journey with my words". I felt the book did take the me on a journey, but not so much a journey of places but rather of life and experience.
The theme that resonated throughout the work to me was the unity of mankind with the focus being on the developing world. I felt touched by the humanity of peoples removed from my own. There were many poignant poems, and pieces of prose and some thought provoking and slightly philosophical musings. In all, I found the work a peaceful, easy read. It's the sort of book suited for a quiet Sunday afternoon where you just want to sit in the garden, read and be still.
