The Shadow Kingdom:

The T'en Trilogy Omnibus

Review by Erika Cain

Cory Daniells's The Shadow Kingdom is a brilliant piece of Fantasy Literature. It consists of three books, The Last T’en, Dark Legacy and The Warrior Code. Her ability to totally draw her readers in is incredible. The story line, though complicated is one of the most intriguing I have ever encountered. Cory’s characters are unique and so very real, and her descriptions of people and places make it seem all the more like this story is not just a figment of imagination, you are actually there.

In The Shadow Kingdom, we are drawn into the lives of the people of Fair Isle, an island that is prosperous and peaceful, and home to the last of the magical race of the T’en. When an invading army threatens Fair Isle, Imoshen, the last Princess of the T’en vows to stop at nothing to protect her people from the invading Ghebites. Imoshen joins forces with the leader of the Ghebite army, General Tulkan, to ensure her survival and to save the culture of her people. Her betrothed, Reothe, last warrior of the T’en, is intent on claiming Imoshen back from Tulkan, uniting the last two pure T’en, to rise up and take Fair Isle back from the Ghebites. Imoshen is torn between her betrothed and the man she has been forced to join with out of necessity. And when General Tulkan’s half brother, King Gharavan comes to lay claim to the conquered island, Imoshen realises that keeping Fair Isle safe from war will be even harder than she first suspected.

Imoshen struggles to keep the peace between the Ghebites loyal to General Tulkan, and the people of Fair Isle, whilst preparing her land for war with the Ghebite King and struggling to control her T’en gifts. Juggling matters of state, impending war and motherhood, Imoshen must also fight the continuing battle between Tulkan, her closest ally, and Reothe, betrothed kinsman, last of her race. Only through her fierce determination, her refusal to give up and her love of Fair Isle and its people will Imoshen be able to accomplish the impossible.

Cory’s writing is magnificent, so full of passion. I loved The Shadow Kingdom so much that I read it twice. I only hope that there is more T’en magic on it’s way.
