Day by Day Armageddon

by J.L.Bourne

Review by Stephen Clark

Written as a journal, John, an on-leave Naval officer, describes his experiences and constant survival as the world he once knew is changed into a landscape teeming with the walking dead. A virus, originating in China, consumes the planet and although every measure by the American Government was instrumented, it can’t prevent a total breakdown in society. Hiding in his house finally becomes impossible and with the rescue of a neighbour (and his dog) they set off to find a sanctuary.

Day by Day Armageddon started as a website with an online journal. You can access the first month at www.tacticalunderground.us just to get a taste, as I did, before I bought the book!

Haven’t read a book set out as a journal before, so the whole experience was new to me, new and very welcomed. You’re only given what John feels like writing down so imagination has to ride shotgun. The whole situation comes across as very realistic. Electricity eventually goes down, there’s the constant need for food and shelter, fuel and ammunition. They don’t walk down a street blowing away anything that moves, stealth has to be used - confrontation is the last resort.

Can’t wait for the next one (as promised, ‘Dead Land’) but seeing as J.L Bourne IS an acting Naval officer and IS at the moment on active duty, I guess I’ll have to be patient.
