Fiends of the Eastern Front
Operation Vampyr
by David Bishop
Review by Selina Schulze
Operation Vampyr is part of Black Flame Publishing’s
'Fiends of the Eastern Front' series.
Set in World War 2, 1941. The Germans are making their way through Russia and
smashing Russian defences.
This story centres around three brothers. Hans, Ralf and Klaus Vollmer. Hans is
a foot soldier in the infantry, Ralf in the tank division and Klaus is a pilot.
During this time, the Rumanian Army is sent in to aid the Germans, but it occurs
to all the German soldiers that their allies are very mysterious and they are
only ever seen at night-time. Beyond this, they begin finding dead Russian soldiers with looks of
terror on their faces and drained of blood, and this unnerves them.
The story follows each of the brothers as they encounter Lord Constanta and his
Rumanian platoon. Will they get out of this alive?
This book is full of historical battles and lots of blood sucking. Vampire fans
will enjoy this read. Each chapter is a recount of the events that happened on a
particular day, and though I don’t know much about history I liked reading
this novel. It is the first in a trilogy, and I will look forward to reading the
rest.
