Secret Tide

Review by Selina Schulze

'Secret Tide' is a fictional story about Geoffrey Wilson. Wilson lives with his wife and kids in a council house. He wasn’t well off, rather the opposite.  One morning as he walks his dog along the beach, he finds four large packages. Wilson fights with his conscience whether to take them or not. No one is around, it’s very early and the sun is just starting to rise over the horizon. In the end, he decides to take the packages home and to his surprise he finds they are full of money. He decides to keep the money but soon the police start investigating him.

As it turns out, someone saw Wilson take the packages and reported it to the police. Wilson decides to turn the money in after seeking advice from a solicitor. The rest of the novel explains where the money came from and who ends up with it in the end.

I found the story was lacking. There was lots of history and factual information, which I didn’t find relevant. I also found it hard to understand some of the terminology used. It’s not something that I would have read normally, so maybe it just wasn't for me? If you like stories about the underdog, drugs and the choices you make in life, you might pick this up for a read.
