Horror's Classic Masters

REMASTERED

edited Kurt S.Michaels

Review by James R.Cain

Horror's Classic Masters REMASTERED is an anthology of 21 horror tales by classic authors of the genre reedited by KurtS.Michaels.  In this book we have W.W.Jacob's (The Monkey's Paw, The Toll House), William Hope Hodgson's (The Derelict, The Gateway of the Monster),  M.R.James's (The Mezzotint, Oh Whistle, and I'll Come to You my Lad), Ambrose Bierce's (The Middle Toe of the Right Foot, An Inhabitant of Carcosa), Edgar Allan Poe's (The Black Cat, The Fall of the House of Usher & The Pit and the Pendulum), Bram Stoker's (The Judge's House, The Burial of the Rats), Robert Louis Stevenson's (The Body Snatcher, Thrawn Janet) Washinton Irving's (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The German Student) , Nathaniel Hawthorne's (Young Goodman Brown, The Hollow of Three Hills) and H.G.Wells (The Valley of Spiders, The Red Room).

Kurt S.Michaels has translated these classics into modern English, and I must say he has done a good job of it.  He wanted to make the stories more accessible to a modern generation, and I feel he's done just that.  It was a good selection and left me wanting to see some of my old favourites done as well.  As this was Volume 1, I'd say that Strider Nola will have more on the way.  I certainly hope so.

While they may not replace the originals, they're certainly a nice compliment to the collection of any horror reader.  I know the book was popular with you teenage son who 'd desired to read some of the old classics but found them hard for him to understand.  For that reason alone, I'd say for me, the book was worth the money.

The book from Strider Nolan is a quality paperback of 366-pages and is affordably priced.  A Recommended buy.
